I was looking for a wider ball pit because my kids are a little bit older, my youngest being 4. I wanted enough space they could both fit in it. This one works great. The sides stand up really well. You can see in the pic with the light coming through that the sides are rectangular pieces with oval holes put between 2 pieces of fabric. I do feel they could be broken if your kid was really rough on it, but I think thats probably how most of these types of ball pits are. It could’ve been a bit sturdier, so 4 stars. We have 600 balls in the fuller picture. That amount works, but you could definitely add more. It easy to put away and folds up to a good small size to store. The box it comes in shows you how to fold it up, as does the listing. Kids love it.

What is the material at the bottom? Is it thin? If planning to use outside should we use a foam pad underneath?
Answer: It is thin because it compact folding. This is more so for inside but could be used outside I just wouldn??t leave it outside to get ruined by weather. A foam piece under would be a good idea for more cushioning for sure.

how many plastic balls fit in there
Answer: I got this for my little gson who is 4 now….I think it could easily hold around 200-300 balls if not more.

does this hold water like a kid pool?
